The investment advisory committee review investment strategies forthe state’s retirement fund, and DiNapoli has given the group a stronger oversight role since he took office in Februar y 2007.

The pension fund has 1.04 millioj members and retirees, paying out $6.8 billio in benefits last year. It is the third-largestt public pension fund inthe nation, behind two in Close to 40 percent of the fund is investe d in domestic equities. DiNapoli is not permittee to invest more than 25 percent of the fund in investmentas classifiedas “alternative,” including real estate, private equity and absolute returnj strategies.
