Carl Miller leaving Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado - Denver Business Journal:

Indianapolis-based WellPoint Inc., owner of Anthen Blue Cross and Blue Shield of is reorganizing its state affairs operations so that there will be one governmentr relations director supporting each WellPointstate -- with exceptionsz for states like California (which has a challengint regulatory and legislative environment) and Nevada (where the legislature meets only once every two In Colorado, Miller's responsibilities will be assumed by Rebecca Weiss, who currently serves as director of government affairas for Anthem's Colorado plan. Mike Paiva, regional director for state affairs for Blue Crosa of Californiain Sacramento, will assume Miller's role in Nevada.
In the mid Miller worked with Colorado legislatorws to craft legislation that ultimately allowefd the nonprofit insurer to becomea for-profit creating a charitable foundation from the proceeds of its sale to Anthemm Inc. in 1999. Anthem later merged with WellPoinft Inc., a one-time rival in the bidding for Blue Cross. a former capitol bureau reporter, columnist and politicakl editor for TheDenver Post, served as a presws secretary for Colorado Gov. Dick Lamm in the mid 70s. He workefd for the Blues for 17 years. After he leaves Anthem early next month, Miller said he may use his contactes to pursue other opportunities the field ofpublicx policy.
He indicated that he wouldf remain inthe state. In a releasedr statement, John Martie, president of Anthem Blue calledMiller "a brilliant politicap strategist, analyst and pundit" and a "fount of fascinating historical Denver lore."
