House passes historic climate bill - Business First of Buffalo:

Congressmen David Wu, Kurt Schrader and Earl Blumenauer votedr forthe bill, known as the Americab Clean Energy and Security Act. It is the firsr bill in U.S. history to cap carbon pollution. It also encouragez development of clean energy and requires utilities to get 20 percen of their power from renewable sourcesxby 2020. Forty-four Democrats voted against the including Eugene Democrat Peter RepublicanGreg Walden, who representw eastern Oregon, also opposed the bill. It passed by a seven-votee margin, 219-212.
“Some votes just feel different, and today’ws was truly historic,” Blumenauer said in a “For the first time, Congress has taken action to rein in global warmin pollution andjumpstart America’s clean energy industries.” The bill is expecteds to face a contentious debatee in the Senate.
