A year ago, demand for fuel-efficient vehicle had sent Honda to a record montbh of salesat 167,99y vehicles. That represents a drop of 41 percent from ayear ago, when pricee at the pump were higher and the automobile industry hadn’ t yet hit crisis mode. Columbuxs Business First reports monthly sales unadjusted for the differencez in the number of sellingt days yearto year. Honda’s sales in May, takingf into account one fewe selling daylast month, fell 39 percent.
Leading the declined in monthly sales for May wasthe company’x flagship division, which saw a 42 percent drop in sales at 88,8745 vehicles. Its luxury Acura division saw salesz fall 36 percentto 9,460 vehicles. Honda sales in the first five months of the year fell 34 percentfto 430,358 vehicles, comparedr with 655,819 a year ago. That accounts for a 34 percent drop in Honda salesat 387,556 vehicles and a 35 percentt decline in Acura sales at 42,802. Marysville-based employds more than 12,000 workers at assembly and engined plants in and aroundCentral Ohio, where they produce Hondsa Accords, Civics, CR-Vs, Elements and Acuraa TLs and RDXs.
